Gustavo Arellano Addresses LBCC Graduates

Gustavo Arellano, author, editor, and syndicated columnist, addressed Long Beach City College graduates May 23 at Veterans Stadium.  More than 1,500 students received AA/AS degrees or certificates this year at LBCC.  The College welcomed thousands of guests, students and alumni as they celebrated the graduation ceremony. This year also marked Eloy Oakley’s sixth commencement as LBCC’s Superintendent-President. “Commencement is my favorite day of the year, and I congratulate every one of our graduates." said Oakley. "I hope they take the experience and knowledge gained at Long Beach City College into their next great endeavor and into four year institutions or the work place,” Oakley said.

Gustavo Arellano, who is well known for his "Ask a Mexican" syndicated column and books, is a product of the community college system.  "I'm honored to give the commencement speech at LBCC, particularly because I'm a proud product of the California community college system. Though times are tough, I know the resolve of such students to not only overcome expectations, but blow them away, as they continue toward greatness," said Arrellano.
