Congresswoman Sanchez & LBCC Partner for Young Entrepreneur Academy
Long Beach City College is teaming up with Congresswoman Linda Sanchez's office for the Young Entrepreneur Academy, a program to support the Boys and Girls Club and the Long Beach Community Action Partnership (LBCAP). The Academy, made up of over 50 students, will participate in a day long tour of Long Beach this Saturday, July 28.
The students will embark on a two hour boat tour of the Port of Long Beach and then head to the Long Beach City College Small Business Development Center satellite office at 309 Pine Avenue where they will be treated to a presentation by Damon Dunn, ex-NFL football player-turned entrepreneur who will share his success story.
"Long Beach City College is committed to supporting young entrepreneurs and the future business leaders of tomorrow," said Lou Anne Bynum, Executive Vice President of Economic & Resource Development. "We are very thankful to Congresswoman Sanchez for her continued support of this important program for our local youth."
The students will also participate in a bus tour of Long Beach small businesses on the Big Red Bus. They will also be treated to lunch by Stefano's Pizza, a Long Beach Small Business Development Center client. Donna Brewer, the owner of Stefano's, is a scholar in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program.
The Young Entrepreneur Academy is managed by the Small Business Development Lead Center which is hosted at Long Beach City College. The main goal of the federal program is to provide opportunities for youth to learn the value of starting their own business and self-employment as a career pathway.
The Academy also hosts other events throughout the year including courses for the youth on marketing, finance, and business planning. In addition, the students participate in courses on public speaking and topics to boost self confidence.
