Are you looking for a P.E. class at LBCC this Fall? Look no further than Kinesiology, as Long Beach City College has changed the department and major's name to the School of Kinesiology and Athletics.
"The change will provide students with an easier transfer process to the four-year colleges and universities as they will be able to complete the first two years of their kinesiology major at LBCC," said Karen Kane, Department Head of LBCC's Kinesiology and Athletics area.
Kane is also excited to announce that LBCC is one of the few Community Colleges in the state to have completed an articulation agreement in Kinesiology with the California State Universities. "This is a very broad major that is one of the fastest growing for pre-med students and physical therapy majors," she added. "It isn't a major only for coaching."
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is significant projected growth by 2018 in Athletic and Personal Training, fitness specialists and physical therapy careers.
LBCC's School of Kinesiology and Athletics is looking forward to supporting this movement by creating a new Kinesiology Major's Club this Fall semester. If you are interested in leaning more about joining the club, please email sponsor Tony Klune at aklune@lbcc.edu or Kane at kkane@lbcc.edu .
