LBCC Production Chosen for Kennedy Center Theatre Festival

Long Beach City College’s Spring 2016 production of Really, Really has won a regional award from the Kennedy Center. Students have been invited to bring the play to the Center’s American College Theatre Festival this month.

The 49th annual festival will be hosted by Mesa Community College Feb. 14 through 18.

LBCC is one of six colleges chosen by the festival’s regional board to present a full production during the Region VII festival. The region covers Arizona, Central and Southern California, Guam, Hawaii, Southern Nevada and Utah. This year, more than 50 colleges and universities competed with more than 200 productions.

This is the first time LBCC’s performing arts program has received such an honor, said Theatre Professor Anthony Carreiro, who directed the play.

Really, Really is a comic-tragedy that looks at a group of Generation Me college students and addresses issues of campus sexual assault and class warfare.
