LBCC Student Wins RadioStar Award

Long Beach City College student Christopher Anderson won the 2017 RadioStar Award for Best Variety Show.

This is the third year that LBCC has won Best Variety Show.

The RadioStar Awards are hosted by Radio Flag, a website that allows users to listen and interact with radio DJs. Award winners are chosen by a panel of judges, which includes industry professionals, RadioStar bloggers and RadioFlag interns.

Anderson’s show, “The Max Chris Show” airs on KCTY (107.7) on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The student DJ started in the radio broadcasting department three years ago.

“There is a real feeling of family. Usually you’re here for a while, so seeing the same people over and over again you start to see them as family,” Anderson said.

Besides the camaraderie, Anderson said he gains real-world, hands-on experience while producing his radio show.

“He was the quiet guy in class, but I sensed that he had leadership qualities. I gave him a leadership role, and he took the ball and ran with it. He is very detail-oriented and continued to reach out to bands and artists,” said LBCC Radio-TV adjunct professor Ken Borgers, one of Anderson’s advisors. “He increased visibility for the radio program and extended outreach to the surrounding communities.”

Anderson plans to graduate from LBCC with a degree in Radio/Television Broadcast
