LBCC Helps to Award Supervisor Don Knabe
Los Angeles County’s 4th District Supervisor Don Knabe was recently presented with an award from the California Association for Postsecondary Education and Disability (CAPED) at LA County’s Hall of Administration. Long Beach City College's Coordinator of the Disabled Students Programs and Services Mark Matsui, and Dr. Terri Goldstein, LBCC's Director of the Growth and Opportunities Project were joined in the presentation by CAPED President Dr. Bob Hughlett and David Sanfilippo, the Director of Disabled Student Services at California State University, Long Beach, the presentation was made in Supervisor Knabe’s office following an informal luncheon. The CAPED Special Recognition Award was presented to Supervisor Knabe for his tireless efforts in saving the Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. Scores of LBCC and CSULB students with spinal cord injuries have received rehabilitation services through this nationally recognized rehabilitation hospital. The Supervisor has a long history of supporting programs serving persons with disabilities including many in Long Beach including the Special Olympics, Disabled Resources Center, Inc. and Rancho’s Don Knabe Pediatric Arts Program.
