LBCC Instructor Selected for Excellence in Teaching Award

LBCC’s John Hauck Selected for Excellence in Teaching Award

LONG BEACH, CA. – John Hauck, Instructor in Long Beach City College’s renowned Electrical Technology program, has been selected for the Excellence in Teaching Award by the California Community College Association for Occupational Educators.

Considered a true advocate for the integration of industry standards in the classroom, Hauck has lead Long Beach City College to be the first community college in the state to be approved for its electrical certification program as well as his textbook writings and work on many college committees, including the faculty mentoring program and the curriculum committee.

“John does exceptional work,” said colleague Scott Fraser. “Over the past five years he has had a second career developing the curriculum standard for electrical classes, working with industry, union representatives, the Chancellor’s Office and later educating other community colleges about the process of becoming a state approved educational provider for electrical courses.”

Hauck is a Long Beach resident and a graduate of LBCC who owned his own contracting company before returning to the college to teach in 1989. “I came back to help the school because it gave me so much,” Hauck said. “Now I have the greatest job on the planet because of what I accomplished here as a student. It’s one of those ‘full-circle things.’”

His award will be presented in Sacramento on March 12.
