New LBCC Hall of Fame Inductees: Les Robbins, Judy Seal, Teresa O’Neill & Jeffrey Napper
This Friday, October 10, the Long Beach City College Alumni Association will be hosting the annual Alumni Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Luncheon at The Centre at Sycamore Plaza in Lakewood. A reception will begin at 11:15am; program and lunch will begin at noon. The Long Beach City College Alumni Association Hall of Fame honors alumni who have made outstanding achievements in their chosen career field, service to the community, and/or area of endeavor. Since its inception in 1972, 133 former students have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Some past recipients of this prestigious honor are Emmy nominated actor John Amos, comedian Paul Rodriguez, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Pat Keller McCormick, screen star Barbara Britton, former Long Beach Mayor Beverly O’Neill, and syndicated radio DJ Jim Ladd. This year the Alumni Association will add four equally prestigious individuals to this list. Jeffrey Napper is the President and CEO of Long Beach Schools Financial Credit Union. He has worked for the LBSFCU for 30 years, working his way up from part-time teller, which he held while a student at LBCC. Throughout his career with the Credit Union Mr. Napper has been instrumental in creating the checking account program, ATM card program, VISA card program, and branch expansion to seven additional locations. During his executive capacity the Credit Union’s investment portfolio grew from $56 million in 1984 to over $274 million in 2008 and assets grew from $96 million to over $1 billion. Teresa O’Neill has written for such shows as Coach, Home Improvement, Becker, The John Larroquette Show, and Night Court, on which she was the first female writer. Ms. O’Neill has developed shows for ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, Paramount, Oxygen, Lifetime, and the Disney Channel. She currently teaches television and humor courses for the Master of Professional Writing Program at USC. Ms. O’Neill will be joining both of her parents, Dr. William O’Neill and former Long Beach mayor and Long Beach City College President Beverly O’Neill, in the Hall of Fame. Les Robbins served on the Long Beach City Council from 1988-1998. He spent over 27 years with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, serving as Deputy Sheriff before being promoted to Sergeant. Mr. Robbins served seven terms as president of the Association for Los Angeles County Sheriffs (ALADS). Mr. Robbins currently serves as a freelance writer for Long Beach’s Beachcomber Newspaper and hosts “Mums the Word” on Charter Cable channel 3. Judy Seal is the executive director of the Long Beach Education Foundation. A product of the Long Beach School System from elementary through graduate school, she has spent the past 14 years coordinating “Seamless Education”- collaborations between the Long Beach Unified School District, Long Beach City College and California State University Long Beach. The successful relationship amongst these institutions has received national recognition. Ms. Seal has taught in the K-12 system and at the community college and university level. Her work on behalf of homeless children’s education has been recognized throughout California and in Washington D.C. Ms. Seal’s mother, Betty Houston Seal, is also an inductee in the LBCC Hall of Fame.
